PSHE
Welcome to our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education page
My name is Mrs Markscheffel and I am proud to be the PSHE Subject Leader at Perryfields Junior School. I am incredibly passionate about PSHE because it sits at the heart of our curriculum driver: Health and Well-being. I believe that when children feel safe, valued, confident and emotionally secure, they are able to thrive in every other area of learning and life.
PSHE is more than a subject – it is about equipping our children with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives both now and in the future. Through PSHE, we support pupils to stay healthy and safe, develop positive relationships, understand their place in the wider world and grow into responsible, respectful citizens.
Our Intent (What we want for our children)
At Perryfields Junior School, we want PSHE to help children understand themselves and the world around them.
We want our pupils to learn how to:
Stay healthy in their bodies and minds
Build positive, respectful friendships and relationships
Keep themselves safe, both online and offline
Understand their feelings and manage them well
Make good choices now and in the future
Respect other people’s opinions, beliefs and differences
Feel confident to ask questions and share their thoughts
Our PSHE curriculum builds knowledge step by step each year, so children keep revisiting important ideas and deepen their understanding as they grow. Everything we teach links closely to our curriculum driver of Health and Well-being, helping children to feel happy, safe and ready to learn.
How We Teach It (Implementation)
PSHE is taught every week in all year groups.
In our lessons:
Children learn in a safe, respectful and non-judgemental environment.
Everyone’s voice is valued and listened to.
Pupils can ask questions openly or use the “Ask It Basket” if they prefer to ask anonymously.
Teachers use engaging activities, discussions and real-life scenarios to help children understand important topics.
Children revisit previous learning so they remember more and can link ideas together.
We celebrate British values and provide leadership opportunities such as School Council, Eco Warriors, Diversity Defenders and Digital Leaders.
Special enrichment days and events help children connect their learning to the real world.
Teachers support and challenge all pupils so that everyone can succeed and grow in confidence.
What this means for our children (The Impact)
By the time children leave Perryfields, we want them to:
Feel confident, safe and valued
Understand how to look after their physical and mental health
Build healthy, respectful relationships
Think carefully about their choices
Ask thoughtful questions and reflect on their learning
Show kindness, tolerance and respect towards others
We want our pupils to leave us as well-rounded, responsible young people who are ready for the next stage of their education and life beyond school.
