Computing

Welcome to our Computing page

My name is Miss Kingston and I am proud to be the Computing Subject Leader. I have always enjoyed using computers and technology from a young age and developed a real passion for Computing during my time studying it at GCSE. Since then, I have continued to enjoy exploring how technology can be used creatively, safely and purposefully both in education and everyday life.

Computing is an exciting and ever-changing subject which plays a huge role in the world our children are growing up in. I am passionate about ensuring all pupils develop the confidence, knowledge and independence needed to use technology effectively — not just for school, but for life beyond Perryfields.

At Perryfields, Computing strongly supports our curriculum drivers:

  • Core Values – Children learn to use technology respectfully, responsibly and safely, understanding how their online actions affect others.

  • Global Citizenship – Computing helps pupils connect with the wider world, preparing them to be thoughtful digital citizens in a global community.

  • Learning for Life – Digital skills, problem solving and logical thinking equip children with essential skills for future education and careers.

  • Health and Well-being – We teach children how to balance screen use, stay safe online and understand how technology can positively support wellbeing.

My aim is for every child to leave Perryfields feeling confident, curious and responsible when using technology.

What we want for our children (Intent)

At Perryfields Junior School, we want children to become confident users of technology who understand how and why it works — without becoming completely reliant on it.

We want our pupils to learn how to:

  • Use technology safely, kindly and responsibly.

  • Build skills step by step so learning becomes easier each year.

  • Use different types of technology to be creative, solve problems and support learning in other subjects.

  • Understand how Computing links to real life and future jobs in our digital world.

  • Make sure every child is supported and challenged so everyone can succeed.

How We Teach It (Implementation)

We teach Computing through fun, engaging lessons that help children grow in confidence and skill.

Children experience:

  • Fortnightly Computing lessons alongside opportunities to use technology across the curriculum.

  • Learning is organised into clear topics such as:

    • Computer systems and networks

    • Programming

    • Creating media

    • Data handling

    • Online safety

  • Lessons that build on what they already know, helping knowledge stick over time.

  • Opportunities to revisit learning through quick starter activities and knowledge organisers.

  • Support and challenge so all learners can achieve highly.

  • Teachers who encourage curiosity, questioning and resilience when solving problems.

Our lessons help children understand that making mistakes is part of learning — especially when coding and problem solving!

What this means for our children (The Impact)

By the time children leave Perryfields, we want them to:

  • Enjoy Computing and understand why it is important in everyday life.

  • Feel confident using technology safely and independently.

  • Remember key knowledge and apply it in real-life situations.

  • Show creativity, independence and pride in their digital work.

  • Talk confidently about what they have created and learned.

  • Feel prepared and excited for the next stage of their education and the digital world beyond school.

Ultimately, our Computing curriculum ensures children develop the skills, understanding and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly technological world while maintaining balance, wellbeing and strong personal values.
