Wonderful Walliams

What an incredible week we’ve had in school! The children have embraced every activity with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a wonderful sense of imagination.

World Book Day was a real highlight. The children looked fantastic in their costumes—thank you to everyone for the time and effort that went into them. Inspired by the book Escape Room, the children wrote their own suspense stories, carefully crafting tension, mystery and excitement. Their creativity truly shone through and they produced some fantastic pieces of writing. We were also lucky enough to welcome the Book Wagon, which created an extra buzz around the day and sparked even more excitement for reading.

On Friday, we were treated to a visit from the incredible storyteller Mike Dodsworth. The children were captivated during his assembly and, in the afternoon, they took part in a storytelling workshop. They explored the key skills needed to be an effective storyteller—using voice, expression, and imagination—and even had the chance to try out their own storytelling techniques. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to build confidence while developing their creativity.

In science this week, we continued learning about our new topic: Living Things and Their Habitats. The children investigated different animal kingdoms, learning about the characteristics that place animals into specific groups. They asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity as they explored how scientists organise the living world.

We also began our new geography unit, exploring the fascinating question of why different climates exist around the world. The children examined average rainfall and temperatures across different parts of the UK, compared these with our local area, and discussed the reasons behind these differences. This provided a great foundation for our upcoming lessons on global climates, rainforests, and deserts.

It’s been a week full of imagination, discovery, and hands-on learning. We are incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been, and we’re looking forward to another exciting week ahead.
