Wonderful Walliams 12.06.2027

Wow! What another incredible week in Walliams Class! This week has been full of excitement, curiosity and lots of fantastic learning!

On Monday, we launched our new DT unit by exploring different types of mechanical systems. The children enjoyed investigating how mechanisms work and identifying examples that can be found in everyday life. We are looking forward to developing our design and making skills over the coming weeks.

In Science, we became animal diet experts! We learned about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores, discussing how animals can be grouped according to what they eat. The children then took on the role of scientists and carried out an investigation to answer the question: Are omnivores taller than herbivores? Using data and careful observations, the children compared different animals and looked for patterns in their results. They discovered that an animal's diet does not necessarily determine its height and that many other factors can influence how tall an animal grows.

In Geography, we continued our local area unit by exploring how Springfield has changed over the years. The children examined historical maps and discussed land use, discovering that Springfield was once predominantly farmland. Over time, it has developed into the residential area that we know today. The children enjoyed comparing the past and present and thinking about how communities change over time.

This afternoon, we completed our second lesson of the Nature Curriculum where the children took part in a water run challenge. Working collaboratively, they had to plan and construct a route using pipes, ropes and natural resources to transport water as far as possible. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork, problem-solving skills and perseverance throughout the activity. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and creativity in action.

Have a wonderful weekend!
