Tolkien Class Update 4/9/26

Date: 4th Sep 2026 @ 2:51pm

We are delighted to share that the children have made a wonderful start to Year 5 in Tolkien Class, picking up confidently from where they left off in Year 4. It has been lovely to see such excellent learning attitudes from the children, alongside high engagement in lessons and lots of inquisitive questions during classroom discussions. This has created a really positive beginning to the year and has already shown how ready the class is to embrace new challenges.

In English, the children have written and published shape poems based on kindness, which is a brilliant way to begin the year with thoughtful, creative writing focusing on kindness. In maths, they have made a start on their place value topic, and in science, they have begun their forces topic with an exciting prediction activity, thinking about how long it would take elastic bands to crush a watermelon. The children clearly enjoyed exploring this and bringing their scientific thinking to life.

The class also enjoyed reward time at lunch time, which rolled over from last term and gave them a well-earned chance to enjoy extended lunch time together. It was a lovely celebration of the strong start they have already made. We are looking forward to continuing this fantastic beginning next week, as the class moves into their first full week in Tolkien Class.

Have a great weekend everyone!
