Remarkable Rundell

What a fantastic first week back in Rundell Class! It has been wonderful to see everyone return with such enthusiasm, curiosity and excitement for the year ahead. We have certainly started with a bang – especially in science! 💥

On Wednesday, we kicked off our science learning by identifying forces acting on objects. The children became scientists for the afternoon as we investigated our BIG QUESTION: How does the number of elastic bands affect the watermelon? 

We headed outside to the playground to conduct our experiment and put our predictions to the test. The children carefully considered what might happen as the number of elastic bands increased, observed what happened during the investigation and discussed the forces involved. There was plenty of excitement, anticipation and some very interesting scientific observations! It was fantastic to see the children working collaboratively, asking questions and using their scientific thinking to explain what they noticed. 

Today, we have also begun our new art learning by getting to know the fascinating artist Vincent van Gogh. The children explored Van Gogh’s life and artwork before creating their own inspiration boards. They collected ideas, colours, images and information to help them understand the artist and what inspired his work. It has been brilliant to see the children looking closely at Van Gogh’s artwork and beginning to think about how his life and experiences influenced what he created. 

From investigating forces and experimenting with elastic bands to discovering the life of a world-famous artist, it has been a busy and exciting first week in Rundell!

We are incredibly proud of the children for the enthusiasm, teamwork, curiosity and creativity they have shown. If this week is anything to go by, we are in for an amazing year of learning!
