Lewis' Learning Log

Date: 30th Apr 2026 @ 4:00pm

What a practical and fun week we have had so far!

I am sure lots of Lewis went home yesterday and filled you in on our science experiments, but in case they didn't...Yesterday, everyone conducted a chew test experiment with a piece of bread. They were instructed to gently chew a piece of bread a few times before stopping and holding it in their mouths. During this, they made observations in their science books about how the bread felt over time, before finally swallowing it! The children showed great restraint throughout. This allowed them to physically feel the digestion process begin with the enzymes in their saliva already proactive in breaking down the food in our mouths. The highlight, however, of the lesson was most likely our practical digestive system. Crackers, raspberries, water, vinegar, a plastic bag and a pair of tights: all combined to show the stages our food go through from mouth to toilet! The reactions were priceless; I'm sure it is a lesson that won't be forgotten in a while!

This afternoon, we explored some artefacts from the Benin Kingdom - actually being able to hold some replicas in person as well as becoming museum curators and creating information to accompany these artefacts if they were in an exhibition. I have been blown away by the incredible efforts everyone put into this today!

Well done on another excellent week so far Lewis Class!
