Cowell Class Update 09.10.26
Date: 9th Oct 2026 @ 2:42pm
Cowell Class have had a lovely week full of learning, curiosity and creativity!
In History, we became archaeologists and historians as we created informative leaflets about Skara Brae. We researched its location in Orkney, explored why it is such an important discovery for historians and learned about how it was uncovered after a storm revealed the ancient settlement. The children worked hard to present their facts clearly and proudly shared their finished leaflets.
In Art, we continued developing our drawing skills by experimenting with a range of techniques using charcoal and oil pastels. The children explored how to create different effects, textures and shading, which will help them in next week's lesson when they begin drawing a variety of 3D objects. We were so impressed by their creativity and willingness to try new techniques.
In English, we have begun writing our own instructional texts based on our class author, Cressida Cowell, and her famous dragon stories. The children have been planning and drafting exciting instructions on How to Train a Dragon, using imperative verbs, clear steps and engaging language to guide their readers.
In Science, we investigated fossils and learned how they are formed over millions of years within sedimentary rock. The children carefully observed a range of fossils, discussing what they might have once been and identifying their features. They also produced some fantastic observational drawings, showing great attention to detail and scientific thinking.
Pupil of the Week – Emily
I am delighted to award Emily with Pupil of the Week this week!
Since her very first day at Perryfields, Emily has blossomed in confidence and grown into a wonderful member of Cowell Class. It has been a pleasure to watch her become more assured and willing to share her ideas with others.
We have been particularly impressed by the way Emily encourages her talk partner to engage in classroom discussions. She does this with such kindness and politeness, always helping others feel comfortable, valued and included.
Emily is a truly kind-hearted member of our class who consistently demonstrates our school values through her caring nature and thoughtful actions. She brightens our classroom every day, and we are so lucky to have her as part of Cowell Class.
Well done, Emily! We am incredibly proud of you and all that you have achieved. Keep shining! 🌟
Well done, Cowell Class, for another week of hard work, enthusiasm and excellent learning. We are looking forward to seeing what next week brings! 🌟
