Year 4 Superstars and Colchester Castle

Date: 13th Feb 2026 @ 3:48pm

Last week was an incredibly busy week for Walliams Class, filled with fantastic learning opportunities and lots of exploration.

On Tuesday, we took part in Year 4 Superstars, where the children had the opportunity to compete against pupils from other schools as well as their own peers in a range of exciting activities. The event was full of energy, teamwork and encouragement. The children demonstrated great sportsmanship, resilience and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon. It was wonderful to see them supporting one another and celebrating each other’s successes. All of the children had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

On Friday, we rounded off the week with an exciting visit to Colchester Castle, where the children deepened their understanding of Ancient Rome. They explored a wide range of artefacts and learnt about how people lived during the Roman period. The children took part in hands-on activities, including building a Roman villa and a Celtic house, which really helped bring their learning to life.

One of the highlights of the trip was going beneath the castle and into the vaults. There, the children learnt more about the Iceni tribe and the story of Boudicca, linking perfectly to our history topic. It was an unforgettable experience that sparked lots of curiosity and thoughtful questions.

Overall, it was a super week packed with memorable experiences, active learning and lots of smiles. We are very proud of the children for their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout.
